How this calculator works

Each subscription is turned into a monthly cost, whatever its billing period: a ₹1,499 yearly plan counts as about ₹125 a month, a ₹349 quarterly plan as about ₹116. The calculator adds them up and shows the total a month, a year and a day. Untick anything you don't pay for, and change any price to your plan.

With the starting list (Netflix Basic, JioHotstar Super, Amazon Prime yearly, Spotify Premium Standard and YouTube Premium), the total is about ₹761 a month, or ₹9,131 a year. That's ₹25 a day, every day.

Monthly or yearly: which is cheaper?

Yearly plans are usually cheaper per month, if you'll use the service all year. Amazon Prime is ₹299 a month or ₹1,499 a year, so paying monthly for twelve months costs ₹3,588, more than twice the yearly price. JioHotstar Super is ₹149 a month or ₹1,099 a year. Pay yearly for what you use every week; pay monthly for anything you watch for one show.

Finding the subscriptions you forgot

The subscriptions that cost the most are the ones not on your list: a free trial that rolled over, a cloud storage plan, a second music app. Most are paid by UPI AutoPay or a saved card, so they never ask before charging.

  • Check UPI AutoPay mandates in your UPI app. Our guide on cancelling UPI AutoPay walks through it for each app.
  • Check your card statement for small repeating charges, especially in dollars.
  • Let an app spot the pattern. PennyWise AI flags a payment as recurring when the same merchant charges a similar amount in at least three of the last six months, including small price rises like ₹649 to ₹699.
