How to find and cancel UPI AutoPay subscriptions

A free trial you forgot about can charge you every month through UPI AutoPay. Here's how to see every mandate on your account and stop the ones you don't use.

What is a UPI AutoPay mandate?

A UPI AutoPay mandate is a standing permission you give a company to take money from your bank account on a schedule, without asking you each time. You approve it once with your UPI PIN, usually when you start a subscription or a free trial. After that, it charges on its own until you cancel it.

That's handy for things you want, like a SIP or an insurance premium. It's also how a ₹1 trial becomes a ₹199-a-month charge that runs for a year. Streaming apps, music, cloud storage, fitness and news apps all use it.

How to see all your UPI AutoPay mandates in one place

Since 31 December 2025, every UPI app has to show all the AutoPay mandates on your bank account, not just the ones you set up in that app. Open any UPI app you use, find the AutoPay or mandates section, and you'll see the full list. NPCI's UPI Help website shows them too.

This came from NPCI's circular of 7 October 2025, which also lets you move a mandate from one app to another. Before it, a mandate set up in PhonePe could only be found in PhonePe, which is how so many were forgotten.

  1. Go to upihelp.npci.org.in

This is NPCI's official UPI Help site. Check the address carefully before you type anything.

  2. Sign in with your mobile number

Use the number linked to your bank account, and enter the OTP.

  3. Choose to see your AutoPay mandates

You'll get every active mandate with the merchant, amount and how often it charges.

How to cancel UPI AutoPay in Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM

Open your UPI app, tap your profile, find AutoPay or Mandates, pick the subscription, and tap Cancel or Revoke. You'll confirm with your UPI PIN. The exact menu names differ by app and change between versions, so look for the words AutoPay, Mandates or Automatic payments.

Where to find AutoPay in each app
AppWhere to lookWhat the button says
Google PayProfile picture, then AutoPayCancel
PhonePeProfile, then Payment Management, then AutoPayCancel or Remove AutoPay
PaytmProfile, then UPI & Payment Settings, then Automatic PaymentsCancel or Revoke
BHIMMandatesRevoke
Menu paths checked against public guides in October 2026. Apps rename menus often; if yours differs, search the app's settings for "AutoPay".
  1. Open the mandate

Check the merchant name and amount, so you cancel the right one.

  2. Tap Cancel, Revoke or Remove

Pause is a different button. More on that below.

  3. Enter your UPI PIN

Every change to a mandate needs your PIN. Nobody else should ever ask you for it.

  4. Check it's gone

The mandate should move to an inactive or cancelled list.

Pause or cancel: which should you choose?

Pause stops payments for a period you choose and then lets them start again on their own. Cancel, also called revoke, ends the mandate for good. Pause if you're taking a break from something you'll come back to. Cancel if you don't plan to use it again.

Pause, cancel, and cancelling the plan itself
ActionWhat it stopsWhat it doesn't stop
Pause the mandatePayments for the dates you pickPayments after the pause ends
Cancel the mandateAll future UPI payments under itThe subscription itself, which may ask for another way to pay
Cancel inside the serviceThe plan, so nothing is owedNothing; do this as well as cancelling the mandate

Cancelling the mandate doesn't cancel the subscription

Revoking the mandate stops UPI from paying, but the company may still think you're subscribed. Some will ask for another payment method or mark your account as overdue. Cancel the plan inside the app or website as well, then revoke the mandate. That way nothing is owed and nothing can charge you.

Charged after you cancelled? What to do

First, check the mandate really shows as cancelled and note the date. Then contact the company with that date and ask for a refund. If they don't help, raise a complaint in your UPI app or on NPCI's UPI Help site, which handles UPI disputes, and keep screenshots of each step.

Cancelling only stops future payments. Money already taken comes back only if the company refunds it, which is another reason to check your mandates every few months. Forgotten subscriptions are one of the most common small spends that add up.

Questions people ask

How do I check all my UPI AutoPay mandates?

Open any UPI app you use and go to its AutoPay or Mandates section. Since 31 December 2025, every UPI app has to show all mandates on your bank account. NPCI's UPI Help site at upihelp.npci.org.in shows them too.

Do I need my UPI PIN to cancel AutoPay?

Yes. Pausing, cancelling or moving a mandate needs your UPI PIN. That protects you, so never share your PIN with anyone who says they'll cancel it for you.

Will I get a refund if I cancel UPI AutoPay?

Cancelling only stops future payments. For money already taken, ask the company for a refund. If that fails, raise a complaint in your UPI app or on NPCI's UPI Help.

Can I cancel a mandate from a different app than the one I used to set it up?

Yes. Under NPCI's rules from 31 December 2025, any UPI app can show and manage all your mandates, and you can move a mandate to another app once every 90 days.
